The technique is similar to that used to knead dough, though it can be either deep and firm or superficial. Petrissage is effective on the shoulder, hips, buttocks and legs, toning and stretching the muscle to relieve stiffness and tension. It also improves the circulation and assists the dispersal toxins from the tissue.

Procedures: Relaxed and use full hands (palm and all fingers). Fingers slightly open. Apply a loose grip and full fingers to thumb. Pads of fingers curl slightly into the tissue. Work same tissue with both hands. Elbows relaxed at sides and shoulders relaxed and down. Scoop the tissue towards the head and feet. Keep head and chest up. Toes facing towards the hands. Generate the force of the stoke by shifting the weight of the body from one leg to the other, in sync with the direction the stroke.
