| | | | The layer of brain is a witness of human evolution. The brain stem, the innermost layer of the brain, controls the vital function of body, as seen in other mammal animals. On the top of brain step is the limbic system which is the sea of human emotions. On the top of limbic system is the neo-cortex which is the center for logical thinking, creativity and intelligence. | | | The limbic system plays a key role as buffer to protect brain stem. One can imagine what a unbearable disturbance could be for brain stem in regulating vital life functions if the neo-cortex has direct impact upon brain stem. | | | However, the neo-cortex does have significant influence over brain stem, though not that dramatic comparing with direct impact. When we sincerely believe in something, that belief will sink in brain stem, which will in turn affect our physical body. Whereas emotion as a state of limbic system can have direct impact on the brain stem, no matter what emotion it may be. | | | Doubt, one of the major functions of our logical thinking in neo-cortex, is in fact a protective mechanism for the brain stem. It protect against certain information to pass through into brain stem. | | | Fear, one of the major emotions of our limbic system, is another protective mechanism for the brain stem. It has the same protect function as the doubt in logical thinking, but with even greater effectiveness. | | | In the light of brain layers, it is obvious that doubt can be double-edged sword --- while it may be protective for harmful thoughts, it may be the obstacle to release unhealthy habitual patterns. The solution is to learn new information, through the awareness of what it would become as the result of unwinding unhealthy habitual patterns. | | | Joy is the definite answer to resolve fear for unwinding unhealthy habitual patterns. With smile and playfulness, it melt away fear inside. Love emerges as the magnet for social interaction. | |
